Design Book Club #2 | Chapter Arts Centre | Quarta, 08. Janeiro 2020

Come to our second Design Book Club to meet up and geek out with fellow design addicts!
Our chosen book is philospher and aesthete Soetsu Yanagi’s ‘The Beauty of Everyday Things’. Yanagi evolved a theory of why certain objects made by unknown craftsmen were so beautiful. Here’s Penguin’s blurb:
“The objects that fill our everyday lives are our constant companions. As such, writes philosopher and Japanese folk-craft pioneer Soetsu Yanagi, they should be made with care and built to last, treated with respect and even affection. They should be things of beauty. Inspired by the work of the craftsmen Yanagi encountered on his travels through Korea and Japan, these now-classic essays are a heartfelt call for us to deepen our relationship with the objects that surround us.”
So, get hold of a copy, read it (or some of it - it is a set of essays, after all...) and come join us at Chapter to talk objects, meaning, sustainability and the relevance of Yanagi’s ideas in a world dominated by global mass-production.
With beer (not provided).
